David Deland is a direct descendant, (4th Generation) of
Edward E. Deland who was the original settler of
Calf Creek Texas
in 1874. David Deland was born in Odessa Texas in 1960 and has spent
almost his entire life in various parts of Texas including Wichita
Falls, Marshall, Woodlawn, Pittsburg, Beaumont, and Mesquite. He
currently resides in Brady Texas.
David spent a lot of time on the Deland family ranch with his
Grandfather, (Elden Earl Deland), during his childhood and
quickly became interested in the history of Calf Creek Texas. About
1974, at the age of 14, David began researching and recording the
history of Calf Creek by reading some of the rare and meager
written history on the area and interviewing as many of the
current and former residents of Calf Creek as possible. This research
eventually evolved into the website
www.CalfCreek.net.
In 2005
www.CalfCreek.net was noticed favorably by several members of the
Calf Creek Cemetery Association
and David was invited to attend one of the regular meetings of the Calf
Creek Cemetery Association where the the new office of Historian
was created. David was then given the honor of seving as the very first
Historian of Calf Creek Cemetery Association.
David Deland continues to work very diligently at recording and
preserving Calf Creek Texas history as well as maintaining and
updating records and information related to the Calf Creek Texas
Cemetery.
